PCOS Has a New Name — And It Changes Everything About How We Treat It

After 14 years of global research and advocacy, the Endocrine Society officially renamed PCOS. It's now called PMOS — Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome.

The reasoning? "Polycystic" was misleading. Not everyone with this condition has cysts. And the old name didn't capture the metabolic and endocrine complexity of what's actually happening in your body.

What Changed

The new name acknowledges what functional medicine practitioners have known for years: this condition is not just about your ovaries. It involves your entire endocrine system — your thyroid, your adrenals, your insulin signaling, your inflammatory markers.

"Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome" finally reflects the systemic nature of this condition. It's a step in the right direction for research and classification.

Here's My Honest Take

A new name is nice. But let's be real — changing the name doesn't change the gaslighting.

It doesn't change the fact that millions of women are still sitting in their doctor's office being told their only option is birth control. It doesn't change the dismissal. It doesn't change the 7-minute appointments where your concerns are minimized and your symptoms are blamed on stress or weight.

You can rename the condition all you want. But if the standard of care remains "here's a pill to mask your symptoms" — nothing has actually changed for the woman living with it.

Women with PMOS deserve more than a new label. They deserve someone who will actually investigate why their hormones are dysregulated, why their metabolism is stuck, and what their body specifically needs to come back into balance.

What We Do Differently

At Mind Body Restored, we don't hand you birth control and call it a day. We run advanced functional labs to look at your full hormonal picture — your androgens, your insulin, your cortisol rhythm, your inflammatory markers, your gut health. Because all of these are connected.

Then we build a strategy around your specific drivers. Not a generic protocol. Not a one-size-fits-all supplement stack. A plan that addresses what's actually happening in your body.

One of our clients struggled with PCOS for over 10 years and couldn't lose weight no matter what she tried. Within two months of working together, she'd lost 10 pounds — without dieting. Because we addressed the root cause, not the symptom.

The Name Changed. Your Options Don't Have To Stay the Same.

If you've been told birth control is your only option — it's not. If you've been dismissed, minimized, or made to feel like this is just something you have to live with — you don't.

There is another way. And it starts with someone who will actually listen.
